Closes the peso with depreciation; operates at 16.40 per spot dollar

Mexico City. The Mexican peso registered a correction this Tuesday, after reaching a new minimum since August 2015, and amid lower risk aversion due to relief in the Middle East; as well as the probability that the Bank of Mexico (BdeM) will study making another cut to the reference rate, which would reduce the rate differential between Mexico and the United States.

The Mexican currency depreciated 0.43 percent, equivalent to 7.01 cents, to 16.4069 units per dollar spotafter recording its best level on Monday (16.3368 units per dollar) since August 2015.

And the Inegi announced this Tuesday that general inflation in Mexico stood at 4.42 percent annually in March, well below the estimates of a variation of 4.50 percent, which opened the possibility that the Banco de México could make other rate cuts this year, in addition to the two that analysts predict.

According to data from the Bank of Mexico (BdeM), the exchange rate operated between a maximum of 16.4270 units and a minimum of 16.3420 units.

The dollar cut its losses, since according to the DXY index, which measures the behavior of the US currency against a basket of six international currencies, it depreciated 0.01 percent, to 103,900 units, pending March inflation data in the United States. United this Wednesday.

For its part, talks on a ceasefire in Gaza eased tensions in the oil market. Brent crude futures fell 1.1 percent to $89.42 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures closed 1.4 percent lower at $85.23.

Wall Street closed mixed as investors wait for inflation to shed light on the path of interest rates in the United States.

The Dow Jones fell a marginal 0.02 percent, to 33,883.67 points; while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.32 percent to 16,306.64 points. The S&P 500 index rose 0.14 percent, to 5,209.91 points.

For its part, the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) fell 0.72 percent, equivalent to 418.79 points, to close at 57,571.15 points.
