Must-Win Match for Mora Keeps SHL Dreams Alive Against Djurgården

For Mora, Tuesday night’s match at Hovet was a must-match. The guests had to win so that the season would not be over, and all dreams of playing in the SHL next season would be gone.

A mighty change of scenery after a timeout in the second period allowed Mora to continue to dream.

At the same time that Djurgården’s players must quickly shake off the disappointment. Because on Friday they get another chance to send the Moraspelarna on holiday.

The home team set top speed from start. It was clear that they immediately wanted to bring the audience with them. Something they succeeded in doing. The match was not many minutes old when the chant “stand up in your seat” was heard at Hovet.

The audience in their seats – including the legendary Mats Sundin – obeyed and the sound volume rose.

In terms of play, Mora worked his way into the period, but Djurgården was the slightly better team in a scoreless, even first period.

– We create a lot of chances, but we have to score goals as well, said Djurgården’s Linus Klasen.

The latter Djurgården continued to have difficulty in the second period as well.

The home team also started that period by far the best. During the opening minutes, Djurgården almost parked in the offensive zone. In the end, Mora’s coach Daniel Hermansson got tired and took a timeout already in the fifth minute.

After that, the match picture changed. Suddenly it was Mora who was the hottest team, and unlike Djurgården, they also took advantage of their chances.

Barely seven minutes of the period had been played when a puck bounced unluckily for Djurgården’s back Calle Odelius. Something that Noah Steen was quick to take advantage of. Steen passed the puck on to Ludvig Levinsson, who scored the 1–0 goal.

A minute and a half later, Chad Yetman increased the lead to 2–0 on the power play.

Some real nightmare minutes for the home team, which would prove to play a decisive role.

Djurgården was invited admittedly into the match at the end of the middle period when Mora’s Daniel Ljunggren was careless with the puck in numerical superiority. That invitation which an ice-cold Wiktor Nilsson made sure to take advantage of. When he reduced it to 2–1, the crowd’s cheers were deafening.

The problem was that it was a brief moment of joy. 59 seconds later it was instead the red-clad Morafans who were heard when Michael Brandsegg-Nygård made it 3–1.

Mora’s confidence in the power play was felt again in the seventh minute of the third period when Chad Yetman with his second goal increased the lead to 4-1.

After that, the uphill was too heavy for the home team, who scored two more goals in the last three minutes – one of which was in an empty net.

Thus became there is no final freeing together with the home crowd.

On Friday, the teams meet again. The sixth semi-final is played in Mora.

If Djurgården wins that match, the final place – where they have to face Brynäs in a battle for a place in the SHL – is secured. If Mora wins, a seventh and decisive match awaits on Sunday.
