CONAKRY- An information and discussion meeting on the organization of the U-17 Championship was held this Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the headquarters of the Guinean Football Federation. Chaired by the Secretary General of the FGF, Ibrahima Barry, the meeting brought together the National Technical Director, Mohamed Kanfory Bangoura, the President of the Guinean Professional Football League (LGFP), Lucien Bendou Guilao, representatives of Ligue 1 clubs, the Head of the FGF competitions department, Mamadou Yaya Binta Diallo, the Head of the referees department, Mohamed Lamine Soumah, the coach of Syli National U-17, Fokou Désiré, the coach of the Guinea school team, Aly Badara Cissé and certain administration executives.

Discussions during this meeting focused on the methodology for organizing the U17 championship, in accordance with the requirements of CAF and FIFA. For this first in our country, it was decided that the championship will be organized in one-way matches due to the busy schedule at the end of the 2023-2024 season. The general secretary announced that the FGF will subsidize clubs to the tune of 40 million Guinean francs, as well as 10 million additional for the purchase of equipment (jerseys and balls) for each participating club.

This competition, which will be organized by the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) in collaboration with the Guinean Professional Football League (LGFP), will be supervised by the National Technical Directorate. Regarding the calendar, the U-17 championship will begin in the return phase of the Ligue 1 Guicopres national championship. Before the end of the meeting, the secretary general reiterated the availability of the entire federal administration for the clubs and stakeholders of Guinean football, emphasizing the importance of unity and cohesion in Guinean football for the benefit of all. The general secretary also announced that consideration is underway to organize an academies competition from the end of this year or next year.

He specified that specifications will be developed in this sense to classify the academies and organize competitions between them at the regional level. The clubs participating in this information and discussion meeting on the organization of the first U-17 Championship in our country were delighted with the initiative. In addition to strengthening our U-17 national team in players, this championship will contribute to combating fraud linked to the age of players with the establishment of a policy to combat this phenomenon at all levels.
