The Prosecutor’s Office in Burgas is checking reports of gassing in Karnobat. The ecoinspection stated that no new reports of a suffocating smell had been received.
It is expected that the test reports will be released by the end of the day.
“We started with an assessment of the outflow of the sewage network in the Mochurica River. It was established that there was no leakage of such substances into the river. We expect the results of the water samples in the sewer manholes to come out by the end of the day. Within the last three days, gas leaks from the sewer shafts have been detected three times,” said the director of RIWS Burgas, Pavel Marinov.
“There is no production in the plant to generate these gases, so far one shaft has shown values of around 0.6”, added the mayor of Karnobat, Georgi Dimitrov.
The mines are located on the production site of the former tractor plant, where more than 12 companies are currently operating. They have been checked, but no violations have been found at this stage.
The Prosecutor’s Office in Burgas has started an investigation into whether inaction or illegal action led to the gassing.
“The aim is to establish the sources of leakage of these gases and whether they are related to production activity or are residual products. This leakage of gases poses a danger to the life and health of people, as well as whether this production shaft is connected to the water supply system of the population,” explained the head of the District Prosecutor’s Office-Burgas, Maria Markova.
If the prosecutor’s office discovers evidence of a crime, pre-trial proceedings will be initiated. The law provides for imprisonment from 1 to 5 years and a fine of up to BGN 30,000.
