After three trucks collided with each other, there were long traffic jams on the A1 in Hamburg. It could still be hours before the full closure can be lifted.
The A1 is completely closed in one direction after a serious accident involving three trucks. There was a crash at around 2 p.m. between the Öjendorf and Billstedt junctions. The police diverted traffic from the Öjendorf junction and over the U22 to the Billstedt junction.
Even three hours after the accident, it is still not clear when the full closure can be lifted again, as the crashed trucks require rescue work with heavy equipment. Among other things, the fire department’s truck crane is in use. In addition, large amounts of diesel have to be pumped around.
How the accident happened is still being investigated: a truck probably hit another and pushed it onto a third, according to police spokesman Patrick Schlüse. The driver of the medium truck was taken to hospital with injuries.

According to the traffic control center, trying to avoid the accident using routes other than the official diversion makes little sense: the traffic lights have been adjusted so that traffic can move fastest via the diversion. Nevertheless, traffic is already backed up for around seven kilometers to Barsbüttel.
