The Russian president, Vladimir Putincalled this Tuesday to combat illegal immigration after the brutal attack perpetrated on March 22 supposedly by four terrorists of Tajik origin on the outskirts of Moscowwhere at least 144 people died.
“We have paid a high price and the entire analysis of the situation must be extremely objective and professional”Putin said when addressing the senior staff of the Ministry of the Interior.
Putin considered it a priority to contain the flow of illegal immigrants, for which he proposed creating digital databases with biometric data, since the current ones are “insufficient.”
He stressed that Russia needs to “radically” change the current immigration policy and defended “the principle that only those who respect the traditions, language, culture and history” of the country can come to live and work in Russia.
“That principle must be decisive”he said and highlighted that illegal immigration is the breeding ground for extremism, another of the Interior’s priorities.
In this regard, he denounced that criminal groups collaborate with foreign secret services and radical structures in the trafficking of people, weapons and drugs.
Of course, he considered it “inadmissible” to use the recent terrorist attack, the most serious in the last 20 years, to promote xenophobia, Islamophobia and ethnic hatred.
The attack on the concert hall Crocus City Hall It triggered the indignation of Russians with irregular immigration and cases of corruption when it came to fraudulently granting foreigners, mostly from the Central Asian republics, residence permits or citizenship.
The head of the Kremlin himself alluded to the issuance of passports to foreigners who do not even speak Russian at a basic level.
Putin also called on the Interior to reinforce security measures at transport hubs, shopping centers, schools, universities, theaters, sports facilities and other places of mass concentration of people.
He was also convinced that the authorities will be able to identify all the links to the attack, including those who commissioned it and its main “beneficiaries.”
And he stressed that the actions of all state and private bodies, agencies and structures that managed Crocus City Hall, where the attack took place, are now being assessed.
The independent press has criticized the Kremlin for focusing all their efforts on repressing internal dissent and opponents of the war in Ukraine, and forgetting about the real criminals and threats to the security of the State.
In total, 15 people have been arrested so far in connection with the attack, four of them for their direct participation in the shooting and explosions that took place at the concert hall.
