Exports from federal entities increased 2.6% at the end of 2023

Mexico City. At the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, the value of exports by federal entity was 136,631.2 million dollars, which represented an annual increase of 2.6 percent, revealed the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This Monday, Inegi presented the results of the Quarterly Exports by Federal Entity (Etef), which provide information on the evolution of the value, measured in thousands of dollars, of the sale of merchandise made by the country’s entities to the rest. of the world.

Thus, the Institute estimated that almost 60 percent of sales abroad are explained by six states, the vast majority of them in the north of the country; while the rest of the entities explain 40.5 percent.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the states with the highest contribution to the total value of exports were Chihuahua, with a share of 13.2 percent; Coahuila, 12 percent; Nuevo León and Baja California, 10.4 percent each; Guanajuato, 7.2 percent and Tamaulipas, 6.3 percent. Together, these entities added up to 59.5 percent.

However, Inegi, chaired by Graciela Márquez, specified that Chihuahua’s exports showed a decrease of 9.3 percent in the last quarter of last year compared to the same period in 2022, exporting 18 thousand 33.6 million dollars. Meanwhile, Tamaulipas’ sales abroad contracted 1.8 percent.

The increase in exports from Guanajuato stood out in the group, with an annual increase of 19 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023, with an amount of 9 thousand 770.3 million dollars, and those from Nuevo León increased 6.9 percent, to 14 thousand 249.2 million.

However, among the five entities with the highest annual increases in the value of their exports were San Luis Potosí, with 31.5 percent; Quintana Roo, with 21.2 percent; Guerrero, with 20 percent; Aguascalientes, with 19.4 percent, and Guanajuato, with 19 percent.

In the October-December quarter of 2023, the transportation equipment manufacturing subsector stood out for its participation in the total value of exports (41.2 percent), where the states with the greatest contribution in said activity were Coahuila (20 percent ); Guanajuato (13.2 percent); Nuevo León (8.8 percent); Chihuahua (8.6 percent) and San Luis Potosí (8.1 percent). These entities concentrated 58.6 percent of the value of these exports.

During the reference period, the states with the highest participation in exports of the Michoacán agriculture subsector (28.1 percent); Sonora (13.3 percent); Jalisco (10.8 percent); Baja California (7.8 percent); Sinaloa (5.9 percent) and Chihuahua (5.7 percent). The six entities added up to 71.6 percent.
