A phone call lasting several hours on Thursday (April 4) resulted in a senior citizen from Oberhausen throwing a bag of money out the window. The Oberhausen police wrote this in a press release. An alleged detective intimidated the woman on the phone with a made-up story about a gang of burglars. The thieves had allegedly already broken in near her apartment.
The telephone scammer continued to involve the elderly woman in the conversation, the police write. The woman then also gave him information about the cash that she kept in her apartment. Finally, the fake inspector explained that the gang was also supposedly planning to break into her apartment. So he just wanted to keep her cash, a five-figure amount, safe. He also gave the woman detailed instructions on how he thought he would save the money.
She was supposed to put all the money in a bag and then throw it out the window into the backyard. Another police officer would then be waiting there and would then keep the money at the station.
