The VAMOS party has taken legal action against Diario El Salvador, for being “a media outlet” that “misinforms the population,” since in one of its columns it stated that VAMOS -is a political ally of the gangs-, a fact that has been denied by the political institute.
VAMOS explained that the legal action has as its basis a column entitled “The People Won”, published on February 19, 2024, where Diario el Salvador falsely accuses the VAMOS party of being the political ally of the gangs.
“This is false, it is a lie. Diario El Salvador’s assertion could even constitute the crime of slander. That is why we have demanded from the media, within the framework of what the law protects us, the use of the right of response, a right that is protected at the national and international level and is a right that serves to protect freedom of expression and honor. of all people,” commented Claudia Ortiz.
In that sense, the parliamentarian stated that the law “enables us to demand that the media publish a clarification prepared by us in its newspaper”: The Special Law on the Exercise of the Right to Rectification or Response states in its article 11 that “the The media must publish or disseminate, where appropriate, without comments or apostilles, the rectification or response, within three business days of receiving the request.” However, the medium has not done so.
Therefore, VAMOS decided to raise the issue to a judicial instance and, based on the law, ask a judge to order the media to publish the requested clarification. “The Judicial Branch has already started the process, admitted the lawsuit and this day the deadline for the Diario El Salvador to rule on the matter would be met,” Claudia added.
