The economic model of the West – getting money for nothing – 2024-04-09 02:12:43

/ world today news/ For many years and decades we were told that we are now living not in capitalism, but in a “post-industrial” society and that our economy is about to become (and in developed countries they have already become) completely “digital”. Times are different, brother! All these minerals, territories, human resources of yours are no longer profitable and nobody needs them. Digit! Information technologies – this is the big deal today!

But today, due to the sanctions war and attempts to organize an economic blockade of Russia, it suddenly turned out that people still need grain and oil. Despite all the advances in information technology, biologically backward people still eat wheat bread and fill their car tanks with fuel made from petroleum. A paradox! Why not bake bitcoin bread? Why there is still no technology to charge a car over the wireless internet.

Russia has grain and oil. But there is no “Apple Pay”. According to the plan of the authors of the sanctions, the deactivation of “Apple Pay” should probably plunge Russia into disaster. Hunger, cold, a pack of stray dogs chewing on the latest hipster who couldn’t buy life-saving instant coffee because Apple Pay didn’t work. Quite unexpectedly, however, the prices of food and gasoline began to rise at a crazy pace not only in Russia (and not even that much), but also in the rest of the world, especially in those countries that came out with sanctions and that have “Apple Pay”.

Because in Russia there is food and there is oil. And with the payment and communication systems, something will always be invented. After all, we once lived without smartphones at all. But man cannot live without food and fuel. All this information technology is good when there is something to eat. And when there is nothing, then they are not very useful. The West has built such an economic model in which it receives money for nothing, exchanging the glass pearls of so-called intellectual property for the very real wealth of nations: oil, metals, grain, and so on. Just as before, the same West traded lands and gold with the Indians for cheap trinkets. This is the patent system.

Of course, technology and know-how aren’t just entertainment apps for smartphones. These are device blueprints, drug recipes and much more that are really necessary and useful. But the very system in which the owner of the technology profits from all the users is a cunning exploitation. This is how America seeks to exploit the entire world. The US now has the largest patent pool at about six trillion dollars. They receive license payments comparable to the income from the export of agricultural products. It is a tax that America collects from the whole world because it has lured scientists, specialists and can finance research. Other countries are forced to pay for licenses and cannot finance their own research and retain specialists. Vicious circle.

But this knot can easily be cut by rejecting US patents. After all, “intellectual property” is a conventional concept. Most often, drawings can be copied, the product can be duplicated, a prescription for a drug can be obtained in the laboratory by breaking down a single tablet. And the American economy will lose huge funds. Oh, don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house! America itself set a historical example: during the struggle for independence, the US did not recognize patents for inventions issued in Great Britain, but issued its own patents for the same inventions to its own citizens. We can also do this – re-patent intellectual property in Russia so that payments do not go abroad.

Another good example is China. Formally, China joined the conventions for the protection of intellectual property back in the 1980s (before that, there were no copyrights for foreigners at all in Communist China). But in fact the Chinese continued to dispose of foreign intellectual property quite freely. The US has constantly complained that there is a huge flow of counterfeit products coming to America exported from Heaven: made using unpaid technology, with infringements on the interests of copyright holders and counterfeit trademarks. And what? The important thing is that it works.

I think that the Chinese leadership deliberately allowed violations of the rights of American owners of patents and trademarks in order not to pay, in order to save money to develop their own technology. Yesterday, China was faking everything, but today it has enough original technologies. And product quality is improving. And so does Hollywood. That we will be showing fewer Hollywood movies is good. But does anyone really think that Russian moviegoers won’t see something? Everyone will see everything. They just won’t pay Hollywood for it. This will also be “copyright infringement”. And what? If the Russian legislature decriminalizes infringing the rights of American copyright holders, then who will punish us?

I still remember how special clerks went around the offices, checking if we had a license for Windows computers. And if it was pirated, then came terrible punishments and fines. Now I hope this doesn’t happen again.
