Berghuis saw from the bench on Sunday how Feyenoord rolled over Ajax. The left-footer has been absent from Ajax in recent months due to injuries, although he is on his way back. At the table with Veronica Offside, Advocaat has often said that Berghuis could be a ‘difficult boy’ at Feyenoord. “At a certain point he starts thinking that he knows everything,” says the Curaçao national coach.
Advocaat then comes up with an anecdote. “We once played away at SC Heerenveen. Their left winger continuously went in and their back went over it. Then he started blaming other players, while: if he had just walked with his man, nothing would have happened. Then he said afterwards: we have to go back to the drawing board. That is Berghuis.”

When Advocaat is then asked whether Berghuis sometimes undermined his authority, De Kleine Generaal is honest. “Eventually, yes. But he never said I had to leave, or anything.”
