Klaipėda University Hospital (KUL) expands assistance to people with cardiovascular diseases. From February, cardiologists at the “Jūrininkai hospital” branch will start examining patients according to the prevention program for cardiovascular diseases. This will ensure maximum cardiology support: from prevention to the operating table.
80 percent deaths are preventable
In Lithuania, mortality from cardiovascular diseases is the main cause of death. Mortality from ischemic heart disease in our country is the highest in the EU and is even four times higher than the EU average.
Specialists of the World Health Organization claim that even 80 percent deaths from cardiovascular diseases could be prevented if people pay attention to effective measures to eliminate risk factors: change their diet, be physically active, give up bad habits, monitor whether there is an increase in the level of low-density lipoproteins or bad cholesterol in the blood, if necessary, effectively would correct it.
“Although a lot of attention has been paid to cardiovascular diseases in recent years, mortality from these diseases in developed countries still does not give up the leading position. Therefore, early diagnosis of these diseases without forgetting to identify risk factors, directing the population in the direction of a correct lifestyle, early clarification of diseases is extremely important”, says Dr. Dalia Jarašuniene.
According to her, very often people think that someone else is sick, but they are not, so they invite you to actively participate in the prevention program of cardiovascular diseases, which reveals quite unexpected things.
Reveals silent disease states
“The prevention program allows a person to take a closer look at himself. When you get an invitation to get checked for cardiovascular disease at the age of 50, you may be very surprised to find out that your blood pressure is elevated, cholesterol or blood sugar levels are elevated. The killer silent disease has no symptoms in the early stages. A person can be sick for a long time and not even suspect what his real state of health is. The preventive program that we started reveals a lot of silent disease states”, says a cardiologist with many years of experience about the benefits of the program, stating that the best doctor is the one who prevents the disease, not the one who treats complications.
At Jūrininkai Hospital – the largest center for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Western Lithuania – cardiologists, who have faced only the consequences for many years, will now have the opportunity to provide assistance from prevention to the operating table.
It is very convenient for patients, because after the diagnosis of the pathology, all qualified assistance will be provided in one place.
Who is the program for?
The Heart and Vascular Prevention Program operating in Lithuania is intended for men and women between the ages of 40 and 60 (inclusive), for whom a family doctor periodically determines risk factors and, if necessary, draws up an individual prevention plan for cardiovascular diseases.
If the doctor determines that the probability of cardiovascular diseases is very high, he sends the patient to specialized centers for more detailed examination. Here, they can have blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels determined, perform an electrocardiogram and other tests that show whether a person is classified as a high-risk group, free of charge.
In such cases, the cardiologists of the KUL branch “Jūrininkai ligoninė” will start treatment immediately.
How to register?
If the family doctor determines that the patient has a very high risk of cardiovascular diseases, he is prescribed a referral.
The patient, having the aforementioned referral for a comprehensive examination by a cardiologist under the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program, you can register yourselffor this application only by phone number (8-46) 241428.
Registration is now open every working day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
When you call the specified phone number, you will be given detailed information about the patient’s expected examination and its time. A detailed examination includes certain blood tests that must be performed. Blood tests will usually be performed on the same day (in the morning) as the consultation.
