“Bayern is no longer a team”

Former striker Fredi Bobic sees fundamental problems at FC Bayern after the defeat against newly promoted Heidenheim. Only a radical change will help in the summer.

FC Bayern’s crisis has worsened further due to the surprising defeat at newly promoted Bundesliga club 1. FC Heidenheim. Fredi Bobic now takes stock of the FCB in his column for Kicker: “FC Bayern’s defeat in Heidenheim fits into the picture of this season – and of a team that is no longer a team and is letting itself be thrown off track by resistance.”

After a 2-0 lead, Bayern lost the game in Heidenheim. It was the sixth defeat this season. For Bobic, however, FC Bayern’s problems lie much deeper. He speaks primarily of structural problems: “Some things have obviously not been structurally right for a long time in the interaction between management, coach and team.”

With Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, said the 52-year-old, “two outstanding German coaches with this squad and under the current circumstances did not work as desired. That says a lot more about the team than it does about Nagelsmann and Tuchel.” Nagelsmann had to leave almost a year ago. Tuchel will leave the club in the summer at the latest.

“Bayern’s team needs new hunger”

However, Bobic also criticizes the team’s attitude and therefore calls for personnel changes in the team. “A change in the summer is inevitable. Bayern’s team needs new hunger and more greed. This squad still has a lot of quality. But this only comes into play if every single person is prepared to give every bit of heart and hunger to every game. That was too rarely the case.”

In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern is now 16 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Winning the Champions League is the last chance for a title.

On Tuesday (9 p.m. in LIVETICKER) the Munich team will meet Arsenal FC in the quarter-finals in London.
