The clay court season begins with a victory for Grigor Dimitrov. In Monte Carlo, at the “Masters 1000” tournament, Dimitrov prevailed over the representative of Monaco, Valentin Vashro. The result is 7:5, 6:2 after exactly an hour and a half of play.
Dimitrov, ranked number 9, faced serious resistance from world number 138 Vashro in the first set. The Monegasque man managed to make a breakthrough in the first game of the match. And although Dimitrov immediately returned it, he kept the high level of his game.
In the tenth game, Vashro reflected a set ball on his serve. But at the next opportunity for a breakthrough for Dimitrov, which was in the 12th game, the Bulgarian managed to realize one. And with that – to win the opening set.
The second set turned out to be easier for Dimitrov, in which he managed to take the initiative at the very beginning. The Bulgarian broke in the middle of the set for 3:1, and at the end of the match he made another break.
The big difference between the two came from the number of winning shots, which were 23:8 in favor of the tennis player born in Haskovo.
In the second round, Grigor Dimitrov will meet the winner of the match between Serbian Miomir Kecsmanovic and Italian Matteo Berettini, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
For qualifying for the second round in Monte Carlo, the Bulgarian will add 50 points for the world ranking and 39,667 euros from the prize fund, which amounts to a total of just over 5.9 million euros.
