Roda JC Kerkrade has taken three very important points against VVV-Venlo in its own stadium. Joey Müller and Boyd Reith scored for Bas Sibum’s team.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, round 33 was scheduled for Roda JC. The opponent this afternoon was fellow provincial VVV-Venlo. The match got off to a slow start. The first goal attempt came after fifteen minutes of play from Roda JC. A corner kick from Arjen van der Heide was headed onto the roof of the goal by Nils Röseler. The closest to a goal in the opening phase, however, were the visitors. Michalis Kosidis fired on the goal from a wide distance. Goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie was shocked when he heard the ball hit the post behind him.
With almost half an hour of play on the clock, the home club had to allow a few long shots from the visitors. However, a goal did not result. A goal did fall on the other side. The ball fell well for Joey Müller and the German did not hesitate. With some luck the ball disappeared behind goalkeeper Delano van Crooij for the 1-0.
More than ten minutes after Müller’s goal, it was thanks to Röseler that VVV did not level the score. Raatsie wanted to catch a cross, but couldn’t get to the ball. The shot that followed into an almost empty goal was defused by the German defender.
The second half started with a huge chance for Boyd Reith. The right back gave the cross pass to Ould-Chikh and then went along himself. Ould-Chikh then reached Reith with a good cross. The defender took the ball out of the air, but unfortunately shot high.
The next twenty minutes saw more than twelve thousand supporters forced to make a substitution on Roda JC’s side. Teun Bijleveld had to leave the field injured. Opportunities were scarce. With less than twenty minutes left on the clock, Roda JC scored the second goal of the match. An excellent cross from substitute Lennerd Daneels came via Van der Heide at the far post and Reith managed to pull the trigger this time for the 2-0.
In the last ten minutes, an extra attacker came onto the field at VVV-Venlo. Not much later, substitute Pepijn Doesburg became dangerous with his head. However, the header was a prey for Raatsie. In the final phase it became even more exciting when substitute Martijn Berden made the score 2-1. Roda JC held out for the remaining minutes of injury time, leaving three important points in Kerkrade!
