The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexico reported that the diplomatic personnel who were accredited in Ecuador will arrive in the country this Sunday, after the breaking of diplomatic relations with the South American nation.

The SRE reported in a statement that “Mexico reiterates its condemnation for the violation of the immunity of its Embassy in Quito and the attack on its staff,” recalling the violent invasion of the Ecuadorian police, which occurred this Friday, to kidnap former Vice President Jorge Glas, who had been granted political asylum.

The agency mentioned that, on instructions from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena coordinates the return of diplomatic personnel accredited in Ecuador, after the violent attack perpetrated by the Ecuadorian police on the Mexican embassy.

He indicated that the group of 18 people will travel this Sunday on a commercial flight from Ecuador to Mexico City.

Bárcena, ambassador Raquel Serur and the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Mexican embassy in Ecuador, Roberto Canseco, will give a message to the media after their arrival at the Mexico City International Airport.

“A large number of friendly and allied countries with the Embassy in Ecuador offered their support to ensure the integrity of the Mexican people, so they will accompany them on the journey to the airport in the city of Quito,” the press release mentioned. .

The SRE specified that the Mexican embassy in that South American country will remain closed indefinitely, as well as consular services.

The Mexican and business community living in Ecuador – more than 1,600 people – will be able to receive assistance through the Registration System for Mexican Persons Abroad (Sirme), as well as in embassies of nearby nations such as Chile, Colombia and Peru.
