The super cup in Turkey has turned out to be a disgrace. In protest against the Turkish association, Fenerbahçe only fielded youth players and after a goal by Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi in the first minute, the Fenerbahçe players walked off the field.
The match was then stopped and the Galatasaray players celebrated the victory of the super cup extensively on the field.
Hooligans
Fenerbahçe is angry with the association for the handling of a match against Trabzonspor that got out of hand a few weeks ago. Players from the Istanbul club were attacked on the field by a large group of hooligans.
Fenerbahçe is angry about what they consider to be a mild punishment of six matches without an audience for Trabzonspor, which was reduced to four matches on appeal.

Turkish football has long been marred by violent incidents. In December, the competition was halted after Ankaragücü’s chairman sent a referee to hospital.
Fenerbahçe called on FIFA and UEFA to take “necessary measures” to ensure safety in Turkish football.
From Saudi Arabia to Sanliufra
The Turkish Super Cup was initially scheduled to be played in Saudi Arabia in December. But that fell through at the last minute, because local authorities did not allow the players of both clubs to wear shirts of Atatürk (the founder of the Turkish state) during the warm-up.
The match was then moved to Sanliurfa, in South-East Turkey. That region was hit by a major earthquake last year.
Fenerbahçe’s top selection did not travel to Sanliurfa and stayed in Istanbul. There Dusan Tadic, Jayden Oosterwolde, Ferdi Kadioglu and their teammates are preparing for Thursday’s Conference League match against Olympiacos.
When it became clear that Fenerbahçe was planning to enter a youth team, the Turkish association already threatened to exclude the club from the next two editions of the super cup.
