Demonstrators blocked the Legion March for Life | iRADIO

The Legion Bridge in Prague was blocked on Saturday after 15.00 by opponents of the March for Life, which is organized by the Movement for Life. Despite calls from the police and a cordon of heavy-duty soldiers, some of them sat on the road and chanted slogans. The march was thus unable to enter the bridge and, after police maneuvers, adjusted its route via the adjacent Jiráský bridge. According to the journalists, the event was carried by disgruntled tourists and passers-by who could not get across the Vltava, their dissatisfaction was resolved by anti-conflict teams.

After diverting the march to the Jirásk Bridge, part of the opponents were going to Wenceslas Square, which was the goal of the march. The police refused to let some of them off the bridge into the center. Two people lowered themselves from the bridge on ropes, which is why the river police were called to the scene, the police reported on the X network.

The center of the metropolis has been monitored by a helicopter since the morning when the participants of the half-marathon passed through the city. On the Legion bridge, the opponents of the march first chanted the slogans “My body, my choice” or “The movement will not move”, later added “Who is covering the fascists, it is the police”. One of them was taken away at the beginning of the protest by heavy-duty police officers, of whom there were dozens at the scene.

The march left Hradčanské náměstí after 2:00 p.m. According to the organizing organization Movement for Life, the event was supposed to ensure better conditions for women who unexpectedly became pregnant. Several hundred people attended the rally. Cardinal Dominik Duka thanked the participants in the square for their courage. According to him, it is a demonstration for real peace, freedom and democracy. The organizers ended the march at approximately 4:00 p.m., shortly after they arrived at Wenceslas Square.

Activists announced that they would block the parade of supporters of the traditional family. In previous years, the police had to intervene in conflicts between the two camps.

In a published Facebook event, the organizers of the protest march said that “clerofascists from the Movement for Life, who cynically protect themselves with their lives, but in reality are concerned with restricting reproductive rights and promoting an ultra-conservative agenda in public space” will pass through Prague.
