Elfsborg escaped against Västerås – after saving a penalty and a dream goal

IF Elfsborg defeated Västerås SK on Sunday evening.
Marcus Bundgaard became the hero of the match with a saved penalty – and Noah Söderberg with a dream goal.

On Sunday, the Allsvenskan’s second round rolled on. Newcomers Västerås SK took on last year’s runners-up IF Elfsborg at home at Hitachi energy arena.

VSK came from a loss with the odd goal away to AIK in the first round. Elfsborg lost a two-goal lead to 2–2 at home against IFK Värnamo in the opening match.

It was the newcomers who came out the strongest in the match and Västerås SK initially drove over Elfsborg. Everything worked for VSK – until the ball was played into the penalty area. The attackers never managed to get a hit on the ball and break the deadlock.

In the second half, Elfsborg came out clearly better than in the first. Borås created a number of good opportunities, but with just under 20 minutes left of regular time, Noah Söderberg got the ball in his hand and a penalty was awarded to VSK. Marcus Bundgaard saved Max Larsson’s penalty and kept Elfsborg in the match.

Just minutes later, Söderberg got his revenge when he struck from distance to give his Elfsborg the lead in the match.

VSK went for the equaliser, but it didn’t really go their way for the newcomers. The match ended 1–0 to Elfborg.

Västerås SK will face Halmstads BK at home next Saturday. Elfsborg visit Hammarby next Monday.
