Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) – The Tulungagung Regency Health Service, East Java is implementing high alert following the spike in dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) cases in the area in the last three months.
“(We are alert) because the peak (outbreak) of dengue fever is predicted to occur this April, so the public is advised to be alert,” said the Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Tulungagung Health Office, Desi Lusiana Wardani in Tulungagung, Sunday.
It is stated that the trend of cases has soared in the last three months.

In January, 56 cases of dengue fever were reported to the Tulungagung Health Office.
Since then, the movement of cases has continued to increase so that in February there were 89 cases of dengue fever reported, in March the increase doubled again to 196 cases.
This month, in the first week of April, the number of new cases until April 5 2024 was reported as 20 cases.
In the three months up to the first week of April, the Health Department recorded that nine people had died due to dengue fever.
“A total of nine people died, with details of two people in January, three people in February, four people in March,” explained Desi.
The spike in cases over the last three months has exceeded the dengue fever figure for 2023 which only reached 206 cases.
According to Desi, the spread of dengue fever is a five-year cycle.

Not only that, weather conditions often change from rainy to hot, making the Aedes aegypti mosquito grow more quickly.
“We predict that the peak of dengue cases this year will occur in April, so we urge the public to be more alert,” he said.
He continued, the findings of dengue fever cases this year were evenly distributed in almost all sub-districts in Tulungagung.
The patients are currently being treated at a number of private and government health centers and hospitals.
Even though the number of cases has increased sharply, Desi said it is not yet in the extraordinary event (KLB) category.
Because determining the KLB must meet several parameters, he said.
“To deal with dengue fever cases, apart from fogging, we are intensively promoting the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) movement,” he said.
