Mexico City. The hitting power of Mexican players was present in the Major Leagues. The one who stole the spotlight was Rowdy Tellez in the undefeated effort that the Pittsburgh Pirates maintained. Tellez was instrumental in helping the Pirates achieve their fourth victory of the season.
In a game in which they beat the Miami Marlin (9-7) in extra innings, the tricolor team was essential for their team to get ahead in a difficult moment of the game.
With the score 6-4 in favor of the Marlins, the first baseman appeared to give another meaning to the confrontation. Thus, in the seventh inning, Rowdy, after a Saturday day with discreet numbers, hit his first home run of the campaign with two men on base. With a cannon shot that went all the way down the center field route and hit the stands, the Mexican-American turned the score around to once again leave Pittsburgh ahead.
Although the match was later tied, the Pirates rescued the victory in the tenth inning with a couple more runs, thus sweeping the four-game series against Miami (0-4), so far, with the worst balance in the league along with the Houston Astros.
At Tropicana Field, another pair of Mexicans took center stage despite the defeat suffered by the Tampa Bay Rays. Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes scored the only scores in the 9-2 beating of the Toronto Blue Jays.
In a duel in which three national baseball players participated, Alejandro Kirk won the game against his compatriots.
While Kirk drove one in, Arozarena hit a solo homer for the second straight day. Paredes, for his part, did the same with a ball that he sent into the stands. The home run, the Sonoran’s first of the year, came too late in a match in which Tampa Bay barely managed three hits.
