In his usual “morning” the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, referred to the Foreign Ministry’s statement declaring the Ambassador of his country in Ecuador persona non grata and the subsequent deployment of security at said diplomatic headquarters.
“The use of force surrounding the embassy with a lot of arrogance is quite publicity, but that’s how the fachos are,” López Obrador expressed in his speech, with his typical slow and extremely slow voice.
He also indicated that Mexico “is not going to break relations nor are they going to do the same with the ambassador of Ecuador (Francisco Carrión).” “We are going to go look for Raquel Segur, today I gave instructions for the Armed Forces, the Air Force, to help us, and to bring our ambassador,” said the socialist.
The Glas situation
López Obrador also said that his Government is considering taking Jorge Glas to Mexico, who is a fugitive from Ecuadorian justice, who is accused by the Prosecutor’s Office for the ‘Reconstruction of Manabí’ case.
«He decides to go to our embassy in search of protection and asylum, and there is the vice president. So what did the Government of Ecuador want? That we would deliver it to him. And we cannot do that because Mexico has a foreign policy characterized by the protection of persecuted people and asylum,” he argued.
He asked for “respect” for the sovereignty of Mexico in its embassy so that they cannot raid it, once Jorge Glas took refuge in those facilities, while describing the presence of the Police outside the diplomatic office as “excessive.”
