Seven more General Town Planning Plans (GPS) in Attica and Thessaloniki were published in the Government Gazette, giving a development perspective to the Municipalities and Municipal Units where land uses, conditions and building restrictions are established, with a view to modern urban planning, sustainable urban mobility and the protection of the property of the State and citizens.
The seven new GIS signed by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tagaras, are as follows:
- The Review of the General Town Planning Plan of the Municipality of Thessaloniki (Province of Thessaloniki) and its environmental approval.
- The Review of the General Urban Planning Plan of the Pefko Municipal Unit of the Municipality of Neapolis – Sykeon (Province of Thessaloniki) and its environmental approval.
- The Amendment of the General Town Planning Plan of the Municipal Unit of Oriokastro of the Municipality of Oriokastro (Province of Thessaloniki) and its environmental approval.
- The Approval of the General Urban Planning Plan for the Spatial Subunit of Oropou Valley (Neon Palation District, Skala Oropou District, Sykaminos District, Chalkoutsi and Oropou District) of the Municipality of Oropos (Province of Attica) and the environmental approval thereof.
- The Review of the General Town Planning Plan of the Municipal Unit of Lykovrysi of the Municipality of Lykovrysi – Pefki (Province of Attica) and its environmental approval.
- The Review of the General Town Planning Plan of the Municipal Unit of Lavreotiki and its environmental approval.
- The Approval of the General Town Planning Plan of the Municipal Unit of Agios Konstantinos of the Municipality of Lavreotiki (Province of Attica) and its environmental approval.
Tagara’s statements about the new plans
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tagaraspointed out that “By actions we prove that as stable helpers of the First and Second Grade Local Government, in the Ministry of Environment and Energy we are determined to put order in the space in the Municipalities of the entire Territory, simultaneously resolving decades of outstanding issues.
I am happy that Thessaloniki, the Municipal Unit of Pefko of the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykeon, the Municipal Unit of Oriokastro, the Oropou Valley, the Municipal Unit of Lykovrysi, the Municipal Unit of Lavreotiki and the Municipal Unit of Agios Konstantinos in Lavreotiki, acquire a modern urban planning.
The “A” of Development presupposes the corresponding planning for every small or large, public or private project. The town planning – spatial planning, establishing rules and restrictions, is the absolute component. It is the starting kick for Development.
It should be noted that the revisions, approvals and modifications of the General Urban Planning Plans in the past required a multi-year process – in some cases exceeding two decades. Now at the Ministry of Environment and Energy they are proceeding with high speed, methodical, planning and consultation with the local communities.
We continue at an unabated pace for the whole country.”
“A very important day”
The Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that “This is a very important day, as after many years the Municipalities of Oreokastro, Neapolis-Sykeon and Thessaloniki are finally getting new General Town Planning Plans (GPS), which meet the needs of their areas and promote, at the same time, the sustainable urban mobility and the environmental upgrading of these three municipalities of the urban complex of Thessaloniki. I would like to thank the competent Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Nikos Tagaras, and the General Secretary of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, Efthymis Bakoyannis, for the continuous and essential cooperation we have had all this time, for the benefit of all our fellow citizens in Central Macedonia”.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Angeloudis, noted that “The new General Urban Planning Plan of Thessaloniki serves the development perspective of the city and satisfies a demand of decades, modernizing the current framework of land uses. The Mayor of Oreiokastro, Mr. Pantelis Tsakiris, emphasized that “With the approval of the General Urban Planning Plan of Oreiokastro, the Municipality of Oreiokastro is entering a new era of development and extroversion. The land acquires additional value and is used in the best possible way. Now, citizens, engineers, lawyers, investors and everyone interested will have knowledge of land uses and thus the land will be utilized with a view to the development and protection of the Environment. I would like to thank those who contributed to reach this result, the municipal authorities, our employees, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and above all the Deputy Minister, Nikos Tagaras, for the effort he made and the constant communication we had. In every step we took, he was by our side, understanding the development goals of the General Urban Plan. His contribution was immediate and decisive for the solution of a chronic issue that was plaguing our Municipality”.
“It is very gratifying that the General Town Planning Plan of Lykovrysi was approved”
The Mayor of Lykovrysi – Pefkis, Mr. Marios Psychalis, underlined that “It is very gratifying that the General Town Planning Plan of Lykovrysi has been approved. Its approval creates the possibilities for the construction of new sports facilities, green spaces, while protecting the natural capital, such as the Kasdagli Forest and the stream of Pyrna. I want to personally thank the Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. N. Tagaras, for the interest he showed and the time he took to approve the revision of the GIS. Also, I thank all those who worked for the GIS, such as Municipality officials, scientists and the previous Municipal Authorities”.
The statements of the mayor Oropos
The Mayor of Oropos, Mr. Giorgos Giasimakis, pointed out that “I first of all want to thank the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tagaras, who with his tireless efforts completed the planning that has been a dream and goal for the residents of Oropos for decades . We continue the enormous effort to bring order to the issues related to Spatial and Urban Planning in the entire coastal zone of the Municipality of Oropos, paving the way for the Development of our place.
From today, the resident, the citizen, knows where he is building, which areas are the expansion areas of the city plans, in Kalamos, in Ag. Apostoulos, in Nea Palatias, Skala Oropou, Oropos, Sykaminos, Chalkoutsi, while at the same time the areas for primary, secondary and tertiary production are being institutionalized. Forests and riparian areas are protected for flood protection. Today dawned a new day for the Sustainable Development of the Municipality of Oropos”.

The Mayor of Lavreotiki, Mr. Dimitris Loukas, said that “an effort of many years has been completed. The updated GPS of our Municipality will contribute to economic and business development, as well as to the armoring of our areas with sports. social and educational infrastructures.
