“What is at stake in the upcoming elections is not the ego of Stefanos, Kyriakos or anyone else. It is the future of your children and the future of your children requires a great democratic faction” said the president of SYRIZA Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis, during his speech at the town hall square in Moires, Faistos Municipality. Speaking to the gathered, Stefanos Kasselakis said that “we are not caught by anyone, we don’t rely on anyone” while referring to statements made a few days ago by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“I heard the prime minister about a week ago saying that financial interests are trying to overthrow the government,” said Mr. Kasselakis who added that “a government that works for the people, that has deep popular legitimacy, is not afraid of any interest. So what are they afraid of? Can a financial interest bring them down? If this is the case, then let’s go to elections”
Stefanos Kasselakis referred to the “pre-election lies” that, as he pointed out, the ND told the citizens, focusing on taxation, tax reductions, but also Tempi.
“They lied about the human error of the station master” said Mr. Kasselakis who spoke of “edited culture on the night of the crime of Tempi”.
“Thank God we have our truth, our message, our movement and this will succeed at the end of the day. SYRIZA is growing, changing, renewing itself. It will be the one great democratic faction of the place” said Mr. Kasselakis, talking about his family’s roots, his great-grandfather and his uncle who were killed by the Germans.
“Apparently there have been no German reparations, not even actual claims by the government in recent years,” he said, adding that “I will claim them as long as I’m alive.”
Stefanos Kasselakis also said that “we are in 2024 and we want our country to get rich. Our whole country should become a modern European country. But we don’t want him to get rich at the expense of the worker who shouldn’t be belittled by a working middle age”.
As he characteristically said, “we want a social state, a state that has real public health and not afternoon surgeries which, as we saw in Heraklion, even cause emergencies”.
In addition, the president of SYRIZA P/S noted that Greece “is not the country of individual responsibility. We are the country of social responsibility. This is the Greece I want and the Greece I know. Social responsibility and social progress”.
“We want a society with human rights for all, without racism, without fascism, without homophobia, without discrimination. A society where equality is not only practical, but equality has above all the compass of equality of opportunity, so that a child born in this place is not forced to migrate abroad. To be able to grow up in his country and excel”.
Stefanos Kasselakis described the demographic problem as a big challenge for society.
“We are a country which in 26 years will have 6.5 million Greeks.
Istanbul has a population of over 20 million, with an average age of 32 years. The state must be interventionist and solve the major problems of society. That is why there must be a government that does not apologize for interests, which can, in a way that is not stuck to these neoliberal mindsets that say privatization everywhere, simply be able to intervene and change the life of the citizen” pointed out Mr. Kasselakis.
Concluding his speech outside the Phaistos town hall, he pointed out that “there is no greater luxury in life than waking up every day and feeling that your life has meaning. I want you to know that as I look into your eyes right now, you give me meaning and I’m grateful for that.”
Earlier, Mr. Kasselakis had the opportunity to take a walk on the main street of Moira where he met citizens and talked with them. He also had a meeting with the mayor of Phaistos, Grigoris Nikolidakis, with whom they discussed the problems of the region. In fact, the president of the SYRIZA Progressive Alliance reiterated that he is proud of the projects implemented in Crete and in the Mesara area under the SYRIZA government, while he also referred to the Faneromeni dam, for which, as he pointed out, studies were completed under the SYRIZA government.
