IFF Panama 2021: Cinema is Life Festival Highlights and Special Guests

Under the motto Cinema is Life, explained its director Karla Quintero, the IFF offers an innovative cinematographic experience and special guests with outstanding tours in international festivals, maintaining the focus on local cinema, Central America and the Caribbean.

For several years, the festival has become a prominent exhibition and background platform for programs such as: Primera Mirada and Su Mirada, which have projected the isthmus and the region internationally.

This year, Quintero highlighted the change in format for the training part, a whole day for industry and education.

Among the program panels, “The multiplier effect of the audiovisual industry” and “The critic as creator: the role of film magazines in the audiovisual medium” stand out, he stressed.

The opening film this year was The Mother of All Lies, a Moroccan documentary directed by Asmae El Moudir, an introspection into El Moudir’s family history, as well as its connection to the neighborhood’s collective history.

Quintero added that in terms of genres the event has a great variety between comedy, drama, fiction, non-fiction, animation and hybrid documentaries.

He also indicated that the classic films Grease (1978), Casablanca (1942) and Rear Window (1954) will be part of the free screenings of the festival at the Cinépolis de Multiplaza, where the presence of actor John Travolta, who starred in Grease, is expected.

The closing of the festival will take place tomorrow, Sunday, with the recognition of the best film from IFF Panama and the award from the Su Mirada fund, in its third edition, thanks to the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
