Patricia Paay, who turns 75 next weekend, had a very hard time during the periods of her life when she was rich. The singer said this on Friday The Telegraph. She had a period of great wealth when she was married to entrepreneur and presenter Adam Curry.
“I also found it quite difficult to be rich,” says La Paay. “With so much money in the bank, it seems like you have nothing left to wish for. If you want something, you can buy it. When my sister Yvonne came over or when I went shopping with my daughter Christina, I was always handing out. They could take whatever they wanted, because I thought it would be a shame not to spoil them if I could.” But the singer could not really enjoy all that wealth: “Having it all within reach also makes a purchase less special in the long run. I mean that. You can’t really look forward to anything anymore.”
‘People change’
It was not a nice time, the singer summarizes. “Being rich was not the best time of my life, it was rather difficult. People around you change, suddenly bombard you with all kinds of unsolicited advice or it affects you personally,” she notes.
Save
Things are different with her new husband Robbert, who is almost forty younger, she adds: “Now when I see a nice bracelet, Robbert says ‘well, let’s save for it’. That does something to your enthusiasm.”
