Sanitation in Bobo: Let’s avoid pouring dirty water into our neighborhoods

In Bobo-Dioulasso, more precisely in Accart-ville, sector 10, the observation is that people continue to pour dirty water in front of their doors, in their square or six meters. This did not start today and persists in several areas of the city. Passing through the neighborhood, traces of stagnant water are visible in several places, so that some pedestrians are forced to make small jumps or bypasses to avoid walking in these waters. Not to mention the nauseating odors they can emit around neighborhood residents. It is certain that such an environment leads to harmful consequences, especially those linked to human health. In fact, they constitute a nest for mosquitoes. For example, these dirty waters attract mosquitoes which are vectors of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. To deal with this situation, local authorities have initiated several sanitation operations in the city, the most recent of which is called Bobo Saniya cira. It is in this context that the municipality of Bobo has already launched several Health Days in all sectors of the city. During these days, women from the green brigade, civil society organizations, and other citizens mobilized to carry out the sanitation operation. The objective is to make the city clean to allow populations to live in a healthy environment. In view of the actions on the ground, it must be recognized that the authorities have made a lot of efforts in this direction but the issue of stagnant water within certain neighborhoods still remains a real concern.
To deal with the problem, the competent authorities must first focus on raising public awareness. For example, organize awareness sessions through the media or in public places. In addition to this, they must advise residents to dig pits in their yards to contain this wastewater. Finally, the authorities must regularly deploy the police in the areas concerned to carry out checks, in order to dissuade people from pouring dirty water everywhere.
