Actor János Gálvölgyi spoke at length about the attacks due to his political opinion, Béla Pintér’s troupe and the secret of his success in a recent interview.
János Gálvölgyi a I’m coming now was a guest of the show, in which he talked about the following, among other things:
- “I still know something if I’m sitting here even after 56 years. I couldn’t have had this much protection for decades,” he said in response to how he has been a popular name among Hungarian actors since the 1970s.
- “It’s no use telling you that you’re the best in Europe if the public says it’s terrible. The audience cannot be fooled,” he explained.
- In relation to being considered a “liberal”, János Gálvölgyi said: “Here, they can’t imagine that you don’t belong anywhere. (…) They can’t imagine that you have your own opinion.”
- “If my opinion has met those who have a different opinion, it does not mean that you have to kill, hate, spit on, humiliate, or write terrible things about the other,” said the actor.
- We reported on Index that János Gálvölgyi joined Béla Pintér’s company last year. He recalled the integration as a “very difficult period”, where he was plagued by serious doubts about whether he could meet the expectations. At the same time, being on stage again had a refreshing effect on him – as he put it, he received a “blood transfusion” acting-wise.
