Arsenal footballer Oleksandr Zinchenko would end his football career and go to fight at the front for Ukraine during the war with Russia.
“I think the answer is clear: I will go to fight,” replied Zinchenko.
The football player said that he has friends from school years who are currently at the front.
“We will never forget what the Russians did to us. They called us ‘brothers and sisters’, but the attack showed that we can no longer be friends with them. And this is what I will teach my children, and they will teach theirs. I know of hundreds children whose parents were killed in the war. This is unacceptable!”
“It is hard to accept that until recently we were in the same school with them. We played football in the school yard or in the stadium, and now they have to defend our homeland,” continued Zinchenko.
“And to be honest, it’s hard to take, but that’s the way it is. We can’t give up. I know some people probably think it’s a lot easier for me now that I’m in London, and not in Ukraine. I really hope this war ends soon,” he said.
“Right now, I couldn’t be more proud to be Ukrainian. My dream is for the war to end soon and for us to rebuild our country the way we want,” concluded Zinchenko.
