A foreign citizen was seriously injured in an apparent robbery that turned violent in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the incident occurred during the night of this Monday, April 1, near Aguilera and Peralejo streets.
The complaint states that the foreigner was allegedly stabbed when they tried to steal an electric motorcycle while he was driving in the company of a woman.
After the incident, the victim was transferred to the ASEGEM Santiago Command Post, where he was rescued and the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) was alerted. According to the preliminary investigation, the attack was committed by several people.
PNR agents cordoned off the scene where the events occurred, to gather evidence that will help them solve the case. Likewise, authorities requested the help of potential witnesses to provide any relevant information.
The communicator also shared photographs of the evidence collected. These images included a motorcycle helmet, a pair of shoes and bloody pants.
At the same time, he indicated that other details, such as the nationality of the victim, are still unknown. Mayeta Labrada added that, due to the strong police presence in the area, the information he received was little, and those who contacted him preferred to remain anonymous for fear of possible reprisals.
“It is also not known exactly if the foreigner has died or is in serious condition, nor in which hospital he is. The clothes that are in the photos belong to the attacked foreigner. (Due to the strong police operation, the details that reach me are concise and people fear reprisals from the police),” he wrote.
Followers of the journalist revealed more details about the event, pointing out in the comments section that the foreigner was taken to the ‘Saturnino Lora’ Provincial Hospital, where he arrived after having lost a lot of blood.
“I was present when the patrol with #644 arrived there with the citizen bathed in blood, he was still conscious, he also arrived accompanied by a girl, the attention to him was quick, thank God, and until 3:00 a.m., a time that I left the place, I was in the recovery room, apparently the surgery was quick,” wrote Internet user Lucy Urrutia.
Other Internet users could not help but point out the high levels of insecurity that are being recorded in the province, stating that, despite what the authorities say, these types of violent incidents have been increasing for months.
