The Gargždai Regional Museum invites you to celebrate International Museum Day and European Museum Night in Gargždai, Priekulė and Agluonėnai on May 18-20! We have prepared a special and culture-filled program for the attention of museum visitors.
May 18, at the Gargžda Music School (Kvietinių St. 2), 6 p.m. we invite you to the presentation of the personality of priest Mykolo Vaitkaus and the mobile exhibition “Life and work of Mykolo Vaitkaus”. Fr. M. Vaitkus was not only a priest, but also an active cultural, literary, and press worker. He wrote and published more than thirty poetry, poems, dramas, short stories, which were undeservedly forgotten in Lithuanian literature. Undoubtedly, one of the most valuable legacies of his work are his memories-memoirs from the stage of his life in Independent Lithuania and his exile in the United States of America. Regina Šiurytė-Šimulienė, curator of the Gargžda Region Museum, art researcher, will present this interesting and versatile personality.
Fr. M. Vaitkus was a fan of the opera genre, so it is no coincidence that the audience of the event will be able to listen to classical pieces performed by Klaipėda State Musical Theater opera soloists Rita Petrauskaitė and Mindaugas Rojaus, who will be accompanied by concertmaster Loreta Piaseckienė.
After the concert program, we will invite the audience to extend their acquaintance with Fr. The work of M. Vaikaus in the Gargždai Regional Museum (Sodo St. 5). Excerpts from the works of M. Vaitkaus will be read by Kristina Kazlauskaitė-Kažukauskienė, director of events and theater at the Gargžda Cultural Center. From 7:30 p.m. the young friends of the museum will have fun ethno entertainment in the courtyard of the museum with Jonas Kavaliauskas. Everyone will be able to go for a walk with kojūkas, play birbynas, pull the rope and try many other traditional Lithuanian folk games.
8 p.m. we will present the audiovisual installation “Silent Shrines” by multimedia artists Augustinas Našlėnas and Viliaus Jokubaitis from Gargždi. The author – Augustinas Našlėnas – will take part in the presentation.
Priekulishki and city guests on May 18, 6 p.m. you are kindly invited to come to the poetry readings at the I. Simonaitytė memorial museum (Vingio st. 11, Priekulė). Meanwhile, those seeking sustainability, spirituality and harmony with their inner world at 7 p.m. are welcome at the Agluonėnai ethnographic homestead (Klojimo st. 9, Agluonėnai) at the neurographic session at the Neurographic Museum. A connection with the roots, an acceptance of the past”. A session by specialist in vesneurography, Dalia Bielskytė. The homestead workers will treat the visitors to a traditional Klaipėda region cake with cottage cheese, and after everyone is refreshed at 10 p.m. a night excursion with unexpected adventures will begin.
Saturday evening at 8 p.m. come to the film screening at the I. Simonaitytė Memorial Museum. In the prepared program, you will see “The man who spoke 75 languages”, “Grandma, GutenTag!”, “Else from Gilija”.
