Eve Gilles, Miss France 2024, is expected Monday April 22, 2024, in Clohars-Carnoët, for a major clean-up of Bellangenet beach. The 20-year-old Dunkirk woman, crowned in December 2023, must participate in the Clean Walk, organized by the Saint Algue hair salon network, in conjunction with the Project rescue ocean association.
The operation took place last year in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), in the presence of Miss France 2023, Indira Ampio. It is renewed on Monday April 22, on the occasion of International Earth Day, dedicated to raising awareness of the protection of the planet.
Eco-responsible commitments
By choosing Brittany to bring together its franchise employees around this Clean Walk, Saint Algue wanted to highlight its strong presence in the region and its eco-responsible commitments, marked among other things by the recycling of hair and by ecocert-certified organic cosmetic products.
“With Saint Algue, it is a partnership established for several years, underlines Sophie Aparici, ambassador of the Project rescue ocean association in Brittany. Obviously, this could have been done in Brest or elsewhere. But I proposed the country of Quimperlé and Clohars-Carnoët. I have a core group of volunteers and active members, who know very well how waste collections work and who are ready to supervise this action. »
Microbead pollution
Around sixty people, from Saint Algue, the Miss France committee and Project Ocean Rescue, will comb Bellangenet beach.
It will be painstaking work to collect cigarette butts, plastic packaging and other waste and fill the bins. With, also and above all, microbeads, “ which is found in very large quantities », on the beaches, since 2022.
Whether or not they come from cargoes that fell into the sea, they are called “mermaid tears”. But there is nothing poetic about industrial plastic pellets, presenting the risk of being ingested by marine species and birds. And then end up in human food.
The Clean Walk will highlight the environmental consequences of such pollution. With Miss France, she will give her a very wide influence. “ This will allow us to be better known so that other volunteers can join us, insists Sophie Aparici. There are cleanups to be done everywhere. The more hands we have, the better…”
