Rice was sitting in his Lamborghini Urus when he got the idea to have a small chase with the driver of a Chevrolet Corvette driving nearby. The athlete couldn’t handle the fast-moving car, crashed into the wall and caused an accident that ended up costing six cars. He ran away from the incident, as did his partner.
At first it was not clear if it was really Rice, to whom both vehicles were registered. “Mr. Rice confirms that he was behind the wheel of the Lamborghini,” the footballer’s lawyer Royce West said on Thursday.
The 23-year-old receiver, i.e. the player whose task is primarily to catch passes from his quarterback, is now cooperating with the police and waiting to see what punishment he will receive. He is lucky that none of the participants suffered serious injuries, although two of them ended up in the hospital. “He’s going to do everything he can to help those affected get their lives back to normal,” West said.
In any case, this is an unpleasant blip on Rice’s promising career. In his rookie season, he quickly moved to the position of elite receiver for the Chiefs, with whom he won the Super Bowl in mid-February. Now he’s flying in trouble.
And he’s far from the only receiver across the NFL who has run afoul of the law in recent years. Three years ago, then 22-year-old Henry Ruggs III, the rising star of the Las Vegas Raiders, caused an accident that killed the driver of the wrecked car and her dog. He was driving under the influence of alcohol and will spend at least three years in prison.
