Moscow demands that Ukraine extradite anyone linked to “terrorist acts” in Russia. One of them is the head of the security service SBU.

The short version

  • Moscow demands that Ukraine hand over people linked to “terrorist acts” in Russia, including the head of the SBU security service, Vasyl Maljuk.
  • The SBU rejects the claim and points out that Putin is wanted internationally for kidnapping Ukrainian children.
  • Russia claims that several “terrorist actions” have “traces leading to Ukraine”.
  • Ukraine reacts strongly and believes that the demand is cynical.

Sea view

The SBU immediately responded by calling the Russian request “meaningless” – and added:

– Have you forgotten that Putin is wanted internationally for kidnapping Ukrainian children?

  • The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in March 2023.
  • They accuse Putin of having participated in the illegal abduction of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia.

Russian UD listed Sunday up violent events that have taken place in Russia since Kremlin forces launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022, the state-controlled news agency Tass.

The Russian Foreign Ministry claims that the investigation into these events shows that “the tracks lead to Ukraine”.

The claim from Moscow to Kyiv was handed over via Belarus, writes the newspaper Kommersant.

Among those listed on the list of Ukrainians whom Russia wants extradited is Vasyl Maljuk, head of the security service SBU.

Russia demands that the regime in Kyiv immediately stop all support for terrorist activity, hand over the culprits and compensate the victims for damages, says the demand from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

In Ukraine, there is a strong reaction to the demand from Russia. One of the reasons is that it came on the anniversary of the revelation of the Butsja massacre in 2022, reports Ukrainskaya Pravda.

– It is especially cynical when the demands come from the terrorist state itself and on the anniversary of the liberation of Butsha and the atrocities committed by the Russians there. We remember each and every dead Ukrainian and will do everything to ensure that the Russians receive an appropriate punishment, says the response from the Ukrainian security service – which thus asks if Moscow has forgotten that Vladimir Putin is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes.

Kyiv concludes with the following message to Moscow:

– There is only one statement from Russia that may be worth attention – that they admit to having lost the war and withdraw their soldiers from Ukraine.
