Residents of the El Carmen canton, on the slopes of the San Salvador volcano, reported this Wednesday the sudden presence of gas emissions on the main street, which generated fear among neighbors.
Given the report, authorities from the Ministry of the Environment went to the area to carry out an inspection but the fumes had already stopped.
«We have verified conditions at the San Salvador volcano, in El Boquerón, after citizen reports of emanations. This afternoon, the phenomenon was no longer observed,” MARN reported in its X account.
The authorities emphasized that the volcanic monitoring parameters during the last few days “have not recorded changes,” and at the same time urged the population not to be alarmed and to be informed through official channels “and avoid speculation.”
“We will inform you of any change in the conditions of the San Salvador volcano,” sources said.
Francisco Garay, councilor of the capital’s mayor’s office and official of the Ministry of Public Works, confirmed the citizen reports that reported the emission of gases, and asked the community to “stay calm.”
«This morning, residents of the El Carmen Canton alerted us of an anomalous situation in the surroundings of the Escalón neighborhood. It is important to obtain information through official Environmental channels and remain calm. Various inspections and investigations are already being carried out in the area,” he explained.
