USA: 152 students with cancer from a toxic substance in the University building – 2024-04-04 18:17:57

More than 152 students at a university in North Carolina, USA, have reportedly been diagnosed with cancer after being exposed to toxic substance.

According to the information cited by Daily Mailcases of lymphoma have been reported and thyroid cancer and his breast among patients found in Poe Hall, a building with classrooms in North Carolina State University, in Raleigh.

Alarming levels of chemicals

There have previously been reports of exposure to alarming levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), toxic chemicals linked to cancer, found in building retrofit materials.

Therefore, the university building was closed in November 2023.

Dozens of lawsuits against the university

An investigation last month found that PCB levels in five rooms were 38 times higher than the limit set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the building.

The university is now facing lawsuits from some of the 152 patients who reported falling ill with illnesses linked to the toxins.

Among them is Sarah Glad, a 35-year-old mother of one who dreamed of using her degrees from NC State to run for office.

However, her dreams were cut short when she died of stage four breast cancer, which her family says is linked to taking classes at Poe Hall.
