The Spain Cultural Center in Mexico in collaboration with the Spanish platform Vibra Mahou, which promotes new talent and promotes live performances, present this Thursday “Vibra Mahou Mx”, a meeting space for cultural and musical exchange between both countries, where the artists Queralt Lahoz and Pahua will star in the first recital.
The project has the purpose of promoting musical creation and emerging sound proposals, it will have a monthly edition in concert format that will be held in Space , culture and creative industries.
Throughout the year, attendees will witness proposals that fuse rhythms and cultures through bands from genres such as indie rock, urban, folk, postpunk, punk rock, which will foster an eclectic musical journey that will range from the most electronic, to the instrumental and analogous.
For the first concert and representing the country, Pahua will participate, a concept by the Mexican singer, composer and diyéi Paulina Sotomayor, where she mixes Latin sounds with electronic ones. The artist was a Spotify EQUAL Mexico ambassador last year, as part of Amazon Music’s ROMPE program and she is a member of the Latin and American Recording Academy.
In his childhood he learned singing, where he practiced with popular bohemian songs, also in Purépecha and Nahuatl languages. In his adolescence he dabbled in percussion and drums, and together with his brother Raúl, he formed the band Sotomayor, where he participated in different festivals in the country and in the United States.
The Mexican will be accompanied by the Catalan singer Queralt Lahoz, who is considered a promise in her country’s music scene. In his music he combines genres such as soul, hip hop and dancehall with coplas and boleros that represent his flamenco origins. He won one of the Music Moves Europe 2023 awards, recognition that the European Union provides to pop and contemporary music with the purpose of celebrate European talent.
Lahoz Born in Santa Coloma de Gramanet, on the outskirts of Barcelona, her music is inspired by the history of the working women in her life and her suburban childhood. In 2021 she released her first album Pureza (Say it Loud Records & Costa Futuro). Throughout her career, she gave more than 120 performances throughout Spain, as well as on stages in Europe and the United States.
With this collaboration between Vibra Mahou and the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico, the aim is to create meeting spaces around live music for the development and promotion of independent culture, to generate opportunities for cultural exchange and strengthening the panorama Hispanic-Mexican musical.
