Leagues Cup promises a better experience for its 2024 edition | TUDN Leagues Cup

Víctor Guevera, vice president of Leagues Cup competitions, spoke with TUDN to detail the new challenges of the 2024 edition of the tournament and the learning obtained a year ago in the first edition of the competition that manages to twin League MX and MLS.

“It has been a whole process that was born in 2023 and that we learned from the experiences that were lived. In 2024 we tried to implement different things, try to have better practices, learning from situations that happened and that nothing guarantees that they will not happen again, but that we are taking into account to have a better tournament.

“Today in Leagues Cup there is an entire structure fully supported by MLS and Liga MX, in the summit that we organized where the 47 clubs that make up the tournament participated, plus representatives from San Diego, the new MLS expansion team. Incredible to be able to bring together two leagues, all the talent of both in the commercial part, operations, marking technology and a sporting part, so that we all together start working for the 2024 edition.

“When this Leagues Cup concept was created, one of the pillars was to start sharing best practices and we understood that if we could bring the leagues together in this part we would help facilitate what is experienced during 77 games in a month. Today is the tournament “It has more matches, more than a World Cup so far, the format changes in 2026. One month and 77 matches is, if we don’t want to say it a record, it is a great challenge that we will have again in 2024,” declared Víctor Guevera.

The 2023 edition of the Leagues Cup was won by Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami against Nashville SC, the first tournament in which all Liga MX and MLS clubs were involved.
