Greek culture is also suffering from the crisis – 2024-04-04 15:23:08

The National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis will work because they are among the priority sites for funding. The problem is that the money will be taken from smaller historical or cultural sites that will be temporarily closed.

The severe crisis in our southern neighbor led to the limitation of money for culture. According to the budget for next year, there will be money only for the big museums and the most popular attractions, reports BTV.

The National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis will work because they are among the priority sites for funding. The problem is that the money will be taken from smaller historical or cultural sites that will be temporarily closed.

“We always have to set priorities. We cannot do everything, no matter how much money we have. There is a lot of work and that is why we direct the funds where there will be a return,” said Pavlos Hieroulanos, Minister of Culture of Greece.

The biggest problem this year with tourist sites in Greece was security. The ministry cut 2,000 jobs, mostly security guards.

“There are many objects that do not work because there are no guards. Many museums are half open because they do not have enough guards, no one guards them at night, the situation is tragic,” said Yanis Maurikopoulis, leader of the security guards’ union.

The Ministry of Culture reassures that there is already enough security for all priority sites. However, the other spheres of culture, such as cinema, opera or theater will have to rely more on donations and sponsorship.
