After showing no signs of repentance, Mariana Cea Oyarce, baptized in the media as the “Pistolera de Lo Valledor,” was placed in preventive detention after taking her gun from a security guard and emptying the magazine, leaving three people injured in said market. supplies in Santiago.
The event occurred this Monday morning at the entrance to the facility, located in the Pedro Aguirre Cerda commune, while several television mobile phones reported live on the market’s new security measures. Drunk, the woman tried to enter the premises several times without showing her identification document, so she was detained by a private guard after threatening him with a metal nail file.
During the struggle to try to get her into the police van and in a moment of carelessness, the woman took the guard’s gun and shot left and right on multiple occasions, leaving three people with injuries of varying degrees.
Cea is Chilean, she is 54 years old and has a police record. In 2006 she was arrested for mistreatment at work by Carabineros in Lo Espejo, and in 2017 she committed theft in a commercial establishment in Estación Central, both in Santiago.
Prosecutor Víctor Núñez pointed out that “we could clearly see in the videos that, regardless of being reduced or having some difficulty moving, she tried to aim and hit the people who were there. Therefore, in what the court shared, there is intent to kill and that is why it was formalized with three crimes of frustrated homicide,” according to a note from BíoBío.
Greater security measures
After the incident, the administrators of Lo Valledor came to La Moneda to discuss new security measures, in order to avoid similar events in that populous market. After the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, reported the lines of work that were agreed upon.
“First, it seems to us that the control of entry to private premises, vehicle control and also identity control, is a right that is regulated today in Chilean society, which is the right of admission,” said the undersecretary.
“We have agreed, in this context, to be able to specify in joint work what a valid identity document implies for the Chilean State, both for Chileans and foreigners. “Of course, the National Immigration Service has been involved in this and we have agreed to be able to train the work teams, in order to be able to specify what a valid document entails so that the identity control can be carried out,” Monsalve indicated.
“We have proposed to the representatives the possibility of advancing that those who work regularly inside the facilities and who have foreign nationality, can be registered exclusively for security reasons,” the authority explained.
As a third point, according to the undersecretary, the Government “has committed to joint work to incorporate a system of television surveillance cameras, which is being promoted by the Undersecretary of Crime Prevention in coordination with various institutions of the Metropolitan region,” said the undersecretary of the Interior. .
Finally, it was determined within the framework of the Private Security Law, and accompanied by the security studies carried out by Carabineros de Chile, “to advance in the installation of metal detector gates and, eventually, later, in technology that could detect weapons”.
“We have agreed to follow up on the measures we have worked on and agreed upon today. Therefore, we have set a deadline for that control point, around May 15,” Monsalve concluded, adding that “in about 30 more days, we are going to meet again to follow up on these measures.” .
