Ribbon and Bow Tie Fashion Trends Taking Over Red Carpets

Here, curls add a touch of romanticism to the striking outfits of recent weeks.

The bow tie has long been the essential accessory to complete an evening outfit for men… and more recently women. The classic version is transformed to gain more interest, it is now embellished with a brooch or it is simply replaced by a grosgrain ribbon tied at the neck.

Decorating dresses, the curls are sometimes worn black on a garment of pale shades, they are also available in tone on tone to add volume or gigantic for a guaranteed effect, going so far as to be the creation themselves.

The buckle is easy to make, just buy a ribbon, make a loop and affix it to the garment with thread and a needle or diaper pin.

This addition can liven up a dress, liven up a dark suit, add a touch of madness to an outfit (especially if the ends are long) or even double as a belt.

The trend also extends to shoes, handbags, jewelry and hair accessories.

LUTHER FORD

In a tuxedo at the SAG Awards, Luther Ford ditched the bow tie, preferring to style his classic Saint Laurent suit with a silk satin scarf, creating an improvised belt that amplifies the modernity and originality of this look.

ALEXANDRA DADDARIO

Alexandra Daddario arrived at the Vanity Fair party wearing an Alexis Mabille Haute Couture dress. The creation would perhaps have been too simple for this type of evening, had it not been for the loop which formed a ring around the actress. I assure you, even when the latter settles, the look is just as spectacular.

STEPHANIE HSU

The face of Kate Spade New York’s spring 2024 campaign, Stephanie Hsu wore the most charming tuxedo at the Films Independent Spirit Awards. The crystal-lit costume was paired with a white shirt and a ribbon tied at the neck.

BECKY G

This delicate David Koma outfit is cut with a ribbon that surrounds Becky G’s chest. This black detail injects a touch of “chic’itude” to the look, as do the pearls from Joseph Saidian & Sons.

CHLOË SEVIGNY

Chloë Sevigny looked like a gift, literally wearing a huge poppy bow. The creation with revisited proportions is synonymous with the world of Simone Rocha.

COI LERAY

Rapper Coi Leray played opulence at the People’s Choice Awards. She slipped into a slashed mini dress by Alexandre Vauthier adorned with a big buckle and snuggled up in a fancy fur coat. His René Caovilla gladiators almost stole the show from this neon look.

LESLIE BIBB

At the premiere of the new Apple TV+ miniseries Palm Royale, Leslie Bibb chose a retro-style azurin dress from Rodarte. Her black Aquazurra strappy shoes recall the lace detail and buckles on the shoulders. Consider decorating a simple pastel dress with black ribbons to give it a touch of novelty.

PHOEBE TONKIN

Oscar de la Renta has combined these two warm shades wonderfully well. The crimson bow, which stands out from the crimson veil dress, adds depth to the creation. Phoebe Tonkin’s dark red lips are a lovely complement to the outfit.

KYLIE JENNER

Kylie Jenner took a dramatic break at the Valentino show. The diaphanous cape lined with black feathers has a lot to do with it. The photo taken from behind reveals that the dress gives the impression of being held together by two knots.

COLMAN DOMINGO

Suits with flared pants are popular, as Colman Domingo clearly demonstrates in this Louis Vuitton tuxedo. The actor, always super stylish, personalized his outfit with a bow tie adorned with a brooch, numerous rings signed De Beers or David Yurman on his fingers, an Omega watch and cowboy boots with metal tips.

Look of the week

EIZA-GONZALEZ

For the media meeting of the first Londoner of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Eiza Gonzalez opted for a hyper feminine look. Designer Suzie Turner’s immaculate bow-tie-decorated creation might venture into bridal territory (advisory for those seeking originality), but lends itself well to the occasion as it juxtaposes a hybrid shirt-vest with a long, airy skirt.
