Danny Avdia is having a record season in the NBA, but given the fact that he is on a “tanking” team, his impressive ability usually does not translate into wins. That was not the case tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday), when the Israeli led Washington to a huge victory over Milwaukee and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Avdia scored 23 points (10 of 17 from the field) along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists on the way to a 113:117 victory over the Bucks and Giannis, who finished with 35 points (15 of 21 from the field), 15 rebounds and 10 assists. These games are exactly the time for the young forward to improve his statistics and gain confidence – and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Avdia’s season average points increased to 14.4, when in all his last 14 games he scored 14+ points. The Wizards player began to stabilize at the end of 2023: since December 27 (40 games) he is at 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists and in his last 21 games (since February 4) the numbers are 18.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
These are the only players in the league other than Avdia averaging 3.8/8.3/16.8 since December 27: Luka Doncic, Domantas Sabonis, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Julius Randle, Joel Embiid, Alfern Shangon, Victor Wombanayama, Bam Adebayo, Jaylen Johnson and Anthony Davis. Out of this entire list only one shot more than 41% from three in that time period: Avdia.
The only ones with 3.7/9.4/18.9 besides Avdia in the last two months are Giannis, Sabonis, Jokic, Shangon and Doncic. Factually – the Israeli is one of the most versatile players in the NBA. When the various league players are asked about him in interviews, they always mention the fact that he can do a lot of things on the floor.
Danny’s averages throughout the entire season are 3.8/7.2/14.4. The only players besides him with those numbers are Luka, Jokic, Sabonis, LeBron, Giannis, Scotty Barnes, Embiid, Randle, Shangon, Tatum and Adebayo.
Among all players in the 2020 draft, only one player has recorded more games with 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists this season than Avdia (24) and that is Minnesota superstar Anthony Edwards (34). Tyrese Halliburton is third with 22.
Also, during the game against the Bucks, Avdia recorded a milestone when he scored the 1000th field goal in his NBA career. The only ones who were drafted before him and reached this milestone are the two All-Stars Edwards and Emlo Ball.
