The Venezuelan prosecutor’s office reported this Monday the release of the content creator who was arrested on Sunday accused of being linked to terrorism activities.
Oscar Alejandro Pérez Martínez, of Venezuelan nationality and known on social networks as Oscar Alejandro, was released under a precautionary measure that requires him to “be attentive to the call of the Public Ministry and the Court,” said the attorney general, Tarek William Saab.
His arrest occurred at the Simón Bolívar international airport in Maiquetía, which serves Caracas, when he was preparing to travel to Canaima, a renowned national park in Venezuela where Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world, is located, along with his mother and brother.
Relatives denounced that the communicator, who lives in the United States, was accused of “activities related to terrorism.”
Saab said that the arrest occurred due to a video he published on his social networks showing the headquarters of a “financial building” and “urging that it be dynamited with explosives.”
The prosecutor refers to material in which Pérez Martínez exhibits part of a building in which several national bank servers are located.
“As a curious fact: if a bomb were thrown at that building, the entire national banking system would collapse,” Pérez Martínez, who has visited thirty countries to produce documentaries on tourism, lifestyle and unusual events, says in the video.
The 37-year-old content creator, who has 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 580,000 followers on Instagram, posted a message on the platform in which he described his arrest as the “worst 32 hours of his life.”
“I told the judge that I deeply love my country and anything I said on my social networks was taken out of context (…) because I would be incapable of making a call that would affect my beloved people in my country and alter public order.” , he pointed.
“In no way did I want to call for terror,” he remarked about the video released in August 2023 after documenting a night tour in Caracas.
The presenter, who said he had received treatment in accordance with “human rights”, confirmed that a judge ruled his freedom by rejecting “terrorist” actions, although he must be available if required by the authorities.
