AMSTERDAM – The Bakfietsclaim.nl team, managed by law firm Birkway, is dissatisfied with the compensation scheme that Babboe has now proposed. They informed their supporters of 12,5,000 Babboe owners late last night.
“Babboe does not give cyclists any money back or any serious compensation,” Birkway says in response to Babboe’s plans, which will replace 22,000 cargo bikes and inspect and repair all other cargo bikes. Every cyclist receives a voucher that entitles him to free maintenance and/or Babboe accessories. Owners of a cargo bike aged 5 years or older can receive a discount on the purchase of a new Babboe cargo bike.
Babboe’s recovery plan raises more questions than it answers
What bothers Birkway is that Babboe does not come up with a financial compensation scheme. “With these so-called solutions, victims remain stuck with Babboe,” Birkway continues. “Babboe’s recovery plan is a complicated logistical operation and today’s message raises more questions than it answers: how does Babboe guarantee that a new bicycle is safe? When will cyclists be helped? How quickly will they receive a new bicycle and when will the bicycles be repaired? And is it possible to have the bicycle checked by an independent bicycle mechanic instead of by a Babboe mechanic? What does Babboe do for cyclists who have lost confidence in Babboe and no longer want a Babboe cargo bike? These are important questions about which Babboe must quickly provide clarity.”
Birkway asks Babboe to provide more clarity about the recovery plan in the short term.
