(ANSA) – PORT AU PRINCE, 03 APR – Armed men under the orders of boss Jimmy Chérizier. head of the federation of criminal gangs ‘Vivre Ensemble (Living Together), have taken control of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (Hueh) in Port au Prince, the most important in the country, with the aim of using it as a base to attack again, after a failed attempt two days ago, the National Presidential Palace which is located nearby. Since April 1, the Haitian media report, the central district of the capital Champ de Mars has been a ‘no man’s land’ crossed only by armed people with their faces covered who spread terror among the population. According to the Haiti Libre news portal, the general hospital “is now occupied by unscrupulous armed men who are using it to attack the National Palace, which is located at a distance compatible with the weapons they have at their disposal.” The police are trying to repel them, “but the task is complex given the strategic position that the bandits occupy”, while there are reports that “several areas of the hospital have been looted and vandalised”.
