A big commotion took place this evening (Monday) during the halftime of the match between Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Tel Aviv (0:2 to Hapoel Jerusalem) in Teddy, at the end of which one of the visiting fans was taken into custody by the police.

The person who tried to prevent the arrest of that fan is Shavit Elimelech, the head of the fan relations setup at the club, when that fan was identified by the police as the one who spat on a police officer during the Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball team’s game against Hapoel Jerusalem held last night.

The fan was forcibly taken from the stands, he resisted arrest and four or five police officers used great force to overpower him and handcuff him. The fan was hit hard in the face and left bleeding on the floor.

Officials at Hapoel Tel Aviv are outraged by the violent arrest. According to eyewitnesses, that fan was arrested by several policemen who beat him on the way to a temporary detention room inside the stadium.

The people of Hapoel tried to reach that fan and were unsuccessful for many minutes, until they received permission from Shavit Elimelech and CEO Amit Fest. The fan was arrested for questioning, when the police said they made the arrest without entering the stands. After that, following serious injuries, the fan was rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

The police arrived at the events and a message on their behalf reads: “This evening during the football game at Teddy, a fan attacked a sports referee with a flag and threatened him, so he contacted the police and asked for their help.

In the meantime, the same fan was also identified by the policemen on the spot as a suspect who attacked policemen last night at the basketball game that took place at the Arena stadium with spitting and violence. As a result, the police approached him and asked him to accompany them. Then the suspect began arguing and confronting the police with kicks, resisted arrest, and during his arrest and rampage fell to the floor and was injured.

After his arrest was completed, he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, after which he will be handed over to the police for questioning in order to serve him justice for the acts of violence he committed in Jerusalem yesterday and today. We will continue to act against violent fans and thugs, who come to the sports fields to fight, threaten and quarrel.”
