In a joint effort to confront the dengue outbreak affecting the province of Santa Fe, Governor Maximiliano Pullaro and the Minister of Health, Silvia Ciancio, announced important advances and measures in a press conference held at the Casa de Government this Wednesday.

The main focus of the conference was the production of repellents by the Industrial Pharmaceutical Laboratory (LIF), a comprehensive strategy of the Government to combat the spread of dengue. Silvia Ciancio reported that, since the beginning of her management, she has been working to reactivate the production of repellents, recognizing the complexity of the situation from the first day.

Currently, the LIF produces approximately 22,700 bottles of repellent per day, with a projection of reaching 110,000 bottles between the second half of April and the entire month of May. These repellents are distributed through the provincial medicine network, including nodal drugstores, the vector and zoonosis directorate, public hospitals and other places where prevention strategies are implemented.

However, Ciancio emphasized that “the use of the repellent must follow a protocol, since it works like a medicine. It is especially prescribed for pregnant women, people with fever and those identified as suspected cases.” In addition, he highlighted the importance of “eliminating the dengue-transmitting mosquito, remembering the warning signs and the need to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in environments close to homes.”

Vaccination

Regarding the vaccine, the minister clarified that “we are convinced that the vaccine is safe and effective. But, it is not appropriate at this time, we need to study and protocolize for the immediate future what the vaccine may be this year to avoid this outbreak.” In relation to this, she stressed that “the vaccines that we are going to administer are going to be for an age group and focused. “Inoculation is not going to be done in the entire province in the same way.”

The vaccine is available in pharmacies, which allows it to be worked on individually with each person’s reference doctor. “Likewise, he clarified, Governor Maximiliano Pullaro’s decision is to buy vaccines, if necessary at a time when scientific recommendations support this decision.”

On the other hand, Guillermo Cleti, member of the LIF board of directors, announced a significant investment to reactivate the construction of the Unified Beta-lactam Solids and Clavulanic Acid Plant on the laboratory property. This plant, which is 67% complete, will receive an investment of more than $2,000 million. Cleti explained that “this work includes a 414 square meter facility, adding service areas, machinery and warehouses. The plant will be responsible for producing medicines that were previously outsourced, thus recovering the production capacity of the LIF and generating local employment.”

Governor Maximiliano Pullaro stressed the importance of these actions in the context of the dengue outbreak in the province. He pointed out that “since the beginning of the epidemic, the provincial government launched various measures to confront the situation, including training, awareness campaigns and coordination with the public health system.” Likewise, he highlighted the decision to acquire vaccines against dengue when the National Vaccination Commission so indicates, emphasizing the importance of effectiveness and efficiency in the application of public resources.

In this sense, Pullaro highlighted the efficiency of the public sector by highlighting the role of the LIF and the investment destined for the pharmaceutical plant. “The investment of $2,000 million will allow the plant to be operational in less than two years, reinforcing the productive capacity of the laboratory and demonstrating that state companies can also be efficient and respond to the needs of the population.”
