Attorney Calls for President Jokowi’s Presence in 2024 Presidential Election Lawsuit Hearing

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Ganjar-Mahfud’s attorney, Todung Mulya Lubis encourage the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) presenting President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the resulting lawsuit trial 2024 presidential election.

“President Jokowi is the head of government. If the president could be brought in by the chairman of the MK panel of judges, that would be ideal,” said Todung after the trial at the MK Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/4).

Todung believes that the management of social assistance funds which is being questioned by the public during the 2024 presidential election is also the responsibility of the president. He hopes that Jokowi’s presence can answer various questions from the public.

“But whether the chairman of the assembly is considering that, I see no visible signs of that,” he said

Todung thinks that the Constitutional Court feels that it is enough to summon four ministers to court to be asked for information regarding social assistance on Friday 5 April.

The four ministers include Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, and Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini.

“But if you want it to be finished, then President Jokowi should be present,” he said.

Previously, President Jokowi also confirmed that his four ministers would attend. Jokowi also invited his subordinates to explain the distribution of social assistance.

“Everyone will attend because they were invited by the MK, everyone will attend on Friday,” said Jokowi at Halim Perdanakusuma Airstrip, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/4).

According to him, specifically for Sri Mulyani, he will explain the social assistance budget. Meanwhile, Risma will specifically provide more detail about social assistance in general.

“The Minister of Finance explains what the budget is like. The Minister of Social Affairs explains what it is like regarding social assistance. Everything will be explained later,” he said.

Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud as petitioners in the dispute over the results of the 2024 presidential election previously united in asking to present four of Jokowi’s ministers.

One of the government policies highlighted by the two applicants was the bombardment of social assistance packages ahead of voting day on February 14.

Both of them accused the distribution of abundant social assistance packages ahead of voting day as a practice of pork barrel politics carried out by Jokowi in winning Prabowo-Gibran.

“These parties are considered important to be heard at the trial which hopefully can be heard on Friday the 5th,” said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo at the trial at the MK Building, Jakarta, Monday (1/4).
