Emirati Heritage Games League Announcement: Reviving Tradition and Promoting Culture

The Sports for All Federation announced the organization of the first Emirati Heritage Games League, in cooperation with the General Sports Authority, over a period of 7 weeks, during the period from April 26 to next June 15, in various emirates of the country, with the aim of reviving the Emirati Heritage Games, at a rate of one week for each. An emirate starting from Fujairah and ending with Abu Dhabi.
Kholoud Al Junaibi, Secretary-General of the Emirates Sports for All Federation, said that holding this tournament for popular games at the state level coincides with World Heritage Day, with the aim of promoting the Emirati heritage games, highlighting their importance, and preserving them as a renewable heritage that is passed down from generation to generation.
She added that games and folk arts are an important part of people’s spirit, one of the most prominent heritage items of every society, and a means of entertainment that carries within it many important goals, such as developing children’s mental and motor abilities, and embodying the spirit of cooperation and familiarity among the group.
She stressed that the launch of the first popular games league represents a consolidation of the sporting heritage and a confirmation of it in the future, especially since the event includes all the emirates of the country.
She explained that the Popular Games League targets broad segments of society, including government and private sector employees, school and university students, Al Furjan residents, and other groups closely related to traditional games, provided that the organizing committees include a committee of elderly people who lived through the popular games.
Emirati culture includes a sporting heritage that includes about 25 inherited popular games, the content of which expresses the environment in which parents and grandparents lived.
