Fish Eating Soup Goes Viral in Santa Marta – National Parks Credit the Unusual Phenomenon

An unprecedented event has generated surprise among the inhabitants of Santa Marta in the last few hours. All after a video emerged on social media in which an animal is seen carrying out an activity that is not usual for them.

And, as seen in the video, a fish usually eats soup, like any human being. The animal, which would be called “Fliper”, consumes said food when its owner brings it a spoon with the food.

Once it sees that the cutlery is close to the surface, the fish sticks its mouth out a little and receives the soup. In the video it is observed that “Fliper” receives up to three tablespoons of the food in less than a minute. In fact, after consuming the food, the animal allows itself to be caressed by its owner for a few seconds.

The situation generated hundreds of reactions on social networks, from where there were users who were surprised by the fish’s performance. Some people even proposed cataloging the animal as an example for children who don’t like soup.

This situation occurred in a home located near Tayrona Park, near the capital of Magdalena.

Some natural areas located in said national park were closed at the beginning of February 2024, due to the effects that the El Niño phenomenon could generate in Colombia.

On March 16, these areas were reopened, as well as some others that had also been closed for a few weeks. Specifically, there were 25 places, with a tourist vocation, that were reopened to the public:

• Farallones de Cali National Natural Park.
• Acandí, Playón and Playona Flora and Fauna Sanctuary.

And the same organization had stated that the natural areas had been closed to the public in order to safeguard “the integrity of people and biological diversity”, given the risks that the El Niño phenomenon was causing in the national territory.

Other points they delved into on that occasion had been the probability of forest fires being recorded in those areas, as well as the “reduction in the supply of water for biodiversity.”

The measure, which generated controversy in the country, was initially scheduled to last until March 1 of this year, however, due to the health situation in the national territory, it had to be extended until March 16.

“This office recommends that the total and sectorized temporary closures of protected areas with an ecotourism vocation be extended until March 1, 2024, date on which the relevance of the reopening or continuity of the measure will be evaluated in each case, in accordance with the communications, bulletins, reports, technical concepts, etc., issued by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) in which a considerable decrease in the conditions of the ‘El Niño’ phenomenon is stipulated,” they indicated from National Parks on that occasion.
